Portuguese researchers know why the rotation of Pluto’s moons is chaotic – SAPO Tek

The work published in Nature was developed by scientists Mark Showalter (SETI Institute) and Doug Hamilton (University of Maryland), United States, and stated that the rotation of Nix moons, Hydra, Kerberos and Styx, contrary to what happens with moons discovered so far of most planets, is not constant and varies unpredictably over time.

For explain, however, why it was this unexpected phenomenon. The answer came two months later at the hands of the Department of Physics (DFIs), University of Aveiro (UA) and was revealed to the world in the last issue of the magazine. “Astronomy & amp; Astrophysics Letters”

According to investigators Portuguese, the reason for strange rotation of the four moons of Pluto is explained by applying the laws of physics. To understand this problem, says Alexandre Correia, coordinator of research and specialist in solar systems, extrasolar planets and planetary physics, “it is necessary to take into account two factors that distinguish these small four moons of all others,” namely Charon, the other Pluto’s moon has a regular rotation.
