A sperm bank in Hubei province, central China, wants to attract semen donors paying the equivalent of the price of the iPhone 6S, the new model of Apple, whose pre-orders sold out in that country in 12 hours.

“An iPhone 6S costs at least 5288 yuan (about 730 euros) in mainland China, you can now get it without having to give a kidney in return,” wrote the laboratory in popular WeChat application, the newspaper China Daily .

The phrase recalls a case from 2012, when a Chinese 17 year old sold a kidney to an organ trafficking network that would eventually be owned and tried to buy an iPad and an iPhone.

In the last quarter, Apple announced more than € 11 billion in revenue in the Chinese market, illustrating the growing demand by US giant appliances in world’s second largest economy.

“Many Chinese spend a fortune to buy an iPhone but are not willing to pay a few yuan for an interesting application,” wrote on Thursday the Chinese newspaper Global Times . “The iPhone is more related to the social status and user lifestyle than with its practical use,” concludes the article.
