“Sorry, something went wrong.” It was this message, in English, that millions of users read when they tried to access Facebook at about 17h40, hours from Lisbon. Moments later came a second generic information “service unavailable”. Access was restored close to 17:50.
There is so far an official explanation for what happened.
The site Venture Beat points out that this is the second fault that Mark Zuckerberg network suffers this month. On 17 September, Facebook was unavailable for about five minutes. The court on Thursday was longer, lasting about ten minutes.
The network has more than 1400 million users and is one of the major online traffic engines worldwide.
