Documents obtained by the British newspaper Guardian indicate that Apple is developing a car capable of driving alone and that the vehicle is already in the testing phase.

The rumor that Apple is trying to create a car already runs long and recent visits of executives from American multinational to BMW headquarters heated speculation.

According to the Guardian , May, engineers from a group of special projects Apple had a meeting with representatives of a former naval base near San Francisco, USA, which is being converted into a space for testing autonomous vehicles. According to documents seen by the newspaper, one of the engineers wrote’d like to know the availability of space and how can coordinate the use with other stakeholders.

Apple did not comment. Already responsible for the Contra Costa Transportation Authority, a state agency responsible for the naval base that is being converted, said he signed a confidentiality agreement with the company. “We can not say anything but they came and are interested,” said Randy Iwasaki, cited by Guardian .

The autonomous cars are being developed by the automotive industry as well as for Google, for years. Many brands have been incorporating in their models autonomous driving technology (such as assistance to park or automatic braking systems) and expect market within a few years cars able to do whole route without a driver.

The rapprochement between the digital technology industry and the automotive industry has also accelerated in recent years, with the cars have systems for easy Internet connection and the devices as tablets and mobile phones.
