The goal is to enable rapid and continuous monitoring of deaths, accurately identifying their causes.
This system was created in April 2012 and in November began being used on an experimental basis, the University Hospitals of Coimbra and the delegation of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Science Centre services.
It is then progressively extended to today cover almost all of all deaths in institutions of the National Health Service (NHS).
The SICO integrates information from prosecutors, the police, hospitals and health centers and the institute of legal medicine.
Ear by TSF Rui Garcia, Hospital Center and University of Coimbra, said the system is more effective, expeditious and confidential. Moreover, it also allows the statistical treatment of the causes of death.
