More than 600,000 people visited on Saturday the Portuguese Mega Pic-Nic Continent held at the Palace Square in Lisbon. Under the theme “Celebrate a family day at Mega Pic-Nic continent” the event celebrated the best of domestic and beat the Guinness record with the making of the world’s largest gazpacho with 5,000 liters of gazpacho, the organization announced today.
Considered as one of the biggest events to take place in Lisbon, the initiative presented several food products from 100% domestic – orchards, vegetables, legumes, herbs, among others – their livestock – cattle, pigs, goats. The environment was recreated with 1501 beds (area of ??2420m2), 38 cultures (area of ??4023m2), 137 fruit trees (area of ??1603m2) and 332 animals (area 2744m2) and a mega garden, that thousands of families had opportunity to experience.
Mega Pic-NIC told, this year, with the visit of Secretary of State for Agriculture, José Diogo Albuquerque that accompanied by the CEO of Sonae MC, Luis Moutinho, the president of the Producers’ Club Continent, Ivone Silva, the councilman José Sá Fernandes Mayor of Lisbon and President of CAP, John Machado, made a tour of the grounds of the event to meet the producers present, the space and the activities that took place there.
Mega Pic-Nic 2013 all families were able to receive the basic teachings of the field in full town, know the secrets of agriculture and learn how to make your own garden balcony and follow the evolution of four typical crops, which are on display at various stages of development.
Between 10:00 and 22:30, visitors contacted with the different elements on shows – gardening cultivation of various food products, animals of the field, fishing gear, games and many animations and traditional activities.
The day ended with a concert by Tony Carreira.
