The PlayStation 3 was launched 10 years ago and came to market with a feature that allowed users to install another operating system on the console. Removing this option took place in 2010 and has generated discontent among the community, leading a group of players to sue Sony.

Six years later, the company agreed to refund part of the money spent on the console to customers who can prove that the functionality was important to use the PS3.

according to ArsTechnica to receive $ 55 (48 euros), players will have to prove that used Linux on the console. If sustain the idea that bought the PS3 because of this feature, Sony returns over $ 9 (7.98 euros). The campaign is valid for customers who have purchased the console in the United States between November 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010.

At the beginning of the process, the company argued that the feature was removed for security issues, an argument which proved insufficient to set the process in their favor.

the agreement has not yet been approved by the California court where the process is running, but is the most likely outcome for hearing to be held on 8 November.

in addition to the reimbursement to customers, Sony still have to pay court fees in an amount of up to 2.25 billion dollars.
