Jordan confirms discovery of a large monument buried in Petra – Terra Brazil

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Jordan, Lina Ennab, confirmed on Sunday the reports on the discovery of a large monument buried under the sand of the historic city of Petra, 225 kilometers south of the capital Amman, the official agency Jordanian news, also called Petra.

“The Department of Antiquities has prior knowledge of the American archaeologist Christopher Tuttle recently released (in allusion to the discovery),” Ennab said, according to “Petra”.

“What Tuttle published is the result of a study conducted two years ago” Petra added.

This study was conducted by Tuttle, executive director of the Council of American Research Centers abroad, and Sarah Peak, the University of Alabama, and was released last week.

Archaeologists said they had used satellite images and drones and ground studies to find the great platform that is still buried.

“The new discovery, which is 800 meters south of the Treasury (in Petra), dates from the second century before Christ,” Ennab said.

The Minister concluded that the Antiquities Department will take the necessary steps to begin with the excavations as soon as possible.
