Facebook and Twitter blocked in Algeria to prevent swindle exams – Express

The Algerian authorities temporarily blocked several social media sites, including Twitter and Facebook, while conducting a final examination of high school. Also the country’s 3G network has been cut. The goal is to avoid a repeat of what happened two weeks ago, when the examination in question was canceled at the last minute because they have realized that an allowed information to escape the questions, or part of them, have circulated on the Internet – accompanied by the respective answers .

An official source admitted to the state news agency that “the cut in social media is directly related to the partial baccalaureate exams that take place on Sunday. This is to protect students from the publication of false documents” . Earlier this month, had been arrested dozens of people in relation to the subject.

the problem of fraud in exams seems to be endemic in countries like Algeria and Egypt (where President al-Sisi published for months a decree establishing prison sentences). in other areas of the world the phenomenon also reaches alarming proportions, as seen by the famous picture, which appeared last year in the international press, dozens of hanging Indians in the windows of a building pass answers to his sons and nephews who were testing there.

For some Algerians and Egyptians students, the issue is more simple. Before see the answers for free on the net than having to deliver one hundred mocas a teacher, one of them explained to a journalist.
