EDP ​​has to change 4.8 million meters by 2020 – Business Journal – Portugal

EDP must change 4.8 million meters by 2020

The replacement will have an overall cost of 600 million euros, being part of the transaction covered by EU funds. The move is in response to a European Union directive dated 2009, newspaper Jornal de Noticias.

The EDP will have to install 4.8 million smart meters by 2020, thereby effecting replacement of existing equipment.

As newspaper Jornal de Notícias this Monday, May 25, the number is about 80% of electricity meters installed in Portugal . The measure consists of a European Union directive dated 2009.

The replacement process is budgeted at 600 million euros. Of this total, 120 million euros will come from EU funds of Portugal 2020. According to the publication, this change counter can not justify price increases to consumers.
