American MAVEN Spacecraft enters orbit around Mars – RTP

The Maven (English acronym for Volatile Evolution and Atmospheric Mars) entered the Martian orbit after ten months of traveling and having traveled 711 million kilometers.

The ship, worth approximately € 500 million, expected to begin operation in November this year, powered by solar energy, addressing for the first time in the history of missions to Mars in the planet’s atmosphere.

The MAVEN will be in Martian orbit to six thousand kilometers altitude, but descend to 125 kilometers on five different occasions, for readings of the various levels of the atmosphere.

NASA researchers pointed to the mission as an attempt to discover what happened to Mars’ atmosphere, maybe there are billions of years, which transformed a planet that housed water in a lifeless desert.
