Guests for dinner, forbidden to eat (1) – BusinessWeek

1. In preparation for the Synod of Bishops summoned to the Vatican by Pope Francisco to be held 5-9 October on the pastoral challenges of the family in the context of evangelization , it is normal to have intensified in different continents, the clashes of pastoral and theological tendencies of the old and new models of family.

Indeed, since Vatican II, there was no break in the controversy about the implications of the Catholic wedding celebration. Will not be extinguished at the next Synod of Bishops. Pope Francisco can not and should not do everything alone and has to rely on the boulders that opponents of his guidance and put him stand in the way.

We are not in the situation of the first Christians. They thought the end of the world was just around the corner, as can be seen in the letters of St. Paul to the Thessalonians. The texts of the NT accuse a certain evolution on marriage, because the Christian communities had to respond to challenges that Jesus can not and could humanly predict. To be loyal to him had to innovate.

On the other hand, if a Christian family identity had nothing to do with the plurality of worlds changing and had been set in eternity once and forever, would not even need much spending in preparation for travel and stay in Rome, the 253 participants of this meeting, which continues more representative of the ecclesiastical hierarchy than the faithful.

2. Jesus himself was born on the story of a family that has not always been a peaceful relationship. In this respect, the narrative of St. Mark on the family of Nazareth are little pious.

After the setting of the constitution of the Twelve to preach, Jesus returned home. The crowd was so great that the family could not even feed. Given that fact, “his left to stop him, saying he is crazy.”

came the scribes, the interpreters of the Law of Moses, confirmed the award and stated that it was the cause of that diabolical madness: Beelzebul is in him and “is by the prince of demons that he drives out demons.”

The back end of this text, in an unusual way, the issue of his family: “There came then his mother and his brothers and standing outside, they sent in the call. There was a crowd sitting around him. They said: your mother, your brothers and your sisters are outside asking for you. But he asked: who is my mother and my brothers? Traversing with the look those seated around him, said, Behold my mother and my brothers. Whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister and mother “(Mark 3).

About the family point of view, its visit to Nazareth was a complete disaster (Mk 6,1-6). In the narrative of St. John it is said, at length, that his brothers enjoyed and did not believe him (Jn 7: 3-5).

There is a clear dispute between Jesus, his family and disciples. Why is? His aim was not the destruction, but the evangelization of the family. This, big or small, can not be a closed world. Does not appear that this Nazarene has started a family, despite the novels assigned to it. He wanted something that may seem crazy, but it will remain as the true meaning of human history: we are all children of God, called to make the world a family of many families, many peoples and cultures. We are all brothers.

3. Let’s go back to home affairs that will be part of the debates of the next synod. The inevitable question is this: what is the spiritual status of Catholics living in unmarried and remarried divorced Catholics

about those who live in de facto unions, there is hope that it will marry. There sure will not divorce. It is not clear that those who live in de facto unions can not be Catholic and commune.

As for remarried divorcees controversy already has a big file [1]. There was the temptation to non-Catholics to consider, is outside of the Church. John Paul II did not align. Insisted that must be incorporated in the Church, in their activities and receive the Eucharist.

No one dares to say they are excommunicated. Some configure spiritual strategies so that they can develop a deeper Christian life and, at Mass, receive Communion spiritually, never, however, have access to sacramental communion. Even in a state of grace, are marked by a rupture of an indissoluble alliance.
