The Cortana is one of the most anticipated features of the Windows 10 and Microsoft wants everyone to use. So much so, that in Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the company removed the option that allowed disable / enable Cortana in the system. Although the change turns the Cortana box in a simple search tool for applications and local files, if you do not have to use Cortana, just do the following:
Step 1. Run the Windows registry Editor. To do this, press the Windows + R keys simultaneously. In the small window that appears, type “regedit” (without the quotes) and hit enter or click the “OK” button. If prompted, provide the password or click “Yes” to authorize the execution;
Step 2. Open the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows Windows Search. If you do not find the “Windows Search” folder under the Windows folder, click the right mouse button in the Windows folder. In the menu that appears, click the “New” option, then “Key” and name the folder “Windows Search”;
Step 3. Within “Windows Search”, click on right-click an empty area. In the context menu, click “New” then “DWORD (32-bit)”;
Step 4. Name the item as as “AllowCortana” (without the quotes) and press enter to confirm;
Step 5. double-click the value “AllowCortana” to edit it. On the small screen that appears, fill in the “Value data” field to “0″ (without the quotes).
Finally, click the “OK” button and close the Registry Editor Windows.
Ready! Exit the current session and login again or restart your computer for changes to take effect. Then, if you need to undo the change and restore Cortana in the future, you can simply go back to the Windows registry, locate the “AllowCortana” value, and delete it or set it to “1″.
