Whether for work, school or for quick information, we have used one of the largest free online information sources, Wikipedia.
Recently, the online encyclopedia announced to be working on a voice tool to facilitate access to visually impaired people.
Wikipedia is now considered one of the main sources of open source information worldwide, is visited monthly by 500 million users.
25% of Wikipedia users will use voice tool
But, according to a PTS study, funding the project, 25% of Wikipedia users, close to 125 million monthly visitors, need or prefer to use a voice tool to access information.
Advocating that information is a global law and realizing this need of your readers, together with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology of Sweden, the information giant is developing an open source voice tool so dictate this information on your platform. The tool, with launch expected in 2017, initially will have three languages:. English, Swedish and Arabic, and was then extended to 280 languages
This platform will be optimized for Wikipedia, but will also be available to other sites based on MediaWiki. Maintaining its open-source policy, the tool will be available to all for free, following the Wikipedia commons terms.
With this action, Wikipedia prepares to really take the information to all people not forgetting the blind or people with vision problems.
