The Airbus registered a patent for a hypersonic airplane passengers to fly faster than the famous Concorde.
According to documents from the US Patent Office, where the project has been registered, the jet could reach speeds of up to Mach 4.5, or four and a half times speed of sound, which is 340 meters per second.
The Concorde reached a speed of Mach 2.
Documents filed in the US Office also speak of a “ultra-fast air vehicle and aerial locomotion related method.”
Dubbed Concorde 2.0, the aircraft has the potential to make paths as between London and New York (5500 km) in about an hour.
Following this proportion, the route between London and São Paulo, of 9500 kilometers, could also be overcome in about two hours, a huge savings over current about 12 hours.
Engines
According to the documents filed by Airbus, the new aircraft would use various types of engines for various purposes and the energy would come from hydrogen stored on board the plane.
jet turbines under the fuselage and a rocket engine at the rear are used on takeoff. And the aircraft would rise vertically, like a space shuttle.
Once airborne, the turbines would be switched off and collected and the rocket engine would then provide the impetus for the aircraft to climb to an altitude of about 30.5 kilometers.
So the type jet engines that usually used in missiles would be turned on and the flight would reach a speed of Mach 4.5.
‘roller coaster’
The PatentYogi site, expert in explaining patent ideas, states that the flight path of this aircraft would be something like “the highest roller coaster in the world “.
The hypersonic would like seats with networks for passengers, something needed to travel in comfort at this speed.
And the passengers on board the aircraft would not have to share the cabin with hundreds of other people as currently occurs in aircraft.
The Airbus patent application describes the aircraft more like a private jet with a capacity to carry only 20 passengers per trip.
In his Airbus patent record also suggests that the aircraft would not be used only on commercial flights, but would also have military use.
Cost
The Concorde was withdrawn from circulation by Airbus in 2003 due to high operating costs of the aircraft.
In the 1970s the supersonic jet generated complaints due to noise and sonic booms that caused with its four turbines.
As a result, the Concorde was forbidden to fly over land at high speed and never managed to turn into a financially viable option for the industry. The aircraft was operating only air taxi service for transatlantic voyages high altitude toward the wealthy passengers of the world.
Remember that the patent application for this new aircraft does not address the issue of sonic booms. But in theory, to take off almost vertically, this noise would dissipate in all directions and would not reach the ground.
For those who are looking forward to the flight schedule, you must remember that many patent applications are not transformed into real products, although the technology described in the project could reach some of Airbus products.
The very Airbus also tried to take part of the importance of the project, saying in a statement that the design is based on “concepts and ideas (that are) in a very early stage.”
In fact, the idea was first published in 2011 and only now began to be disclosed since won approval from the US Patent Office.
