PS MEP Elisa Ferreira will be co-rapporteur of the newly established special committee of the European Parliament that will determine the aggressive tax practices in the various countries of the European Union (EU). The Socialist MEP was chosen by the socialist MEPs, political family that has 12 of the 45 seats in this special committee.

The working group set up following the revelations of the case & lt; i & gt; LuxLeaks & lt; / i & gt ;, which has re-launched the debate on European tax laws. The core mission of the Commission shall assess conformity of aggressive tax practices with European Union law, whether the tax legislation or the rules on state aid which relate to fiscal decisions.

The Parliament did not respond to the creation of a commission of inquiry, which would have more powers (may require access to national documents), but eventually enable a special commission, which now has six-month term, renewable for present the conclusions.

The purpose of the commission is not “doing a witch hunt, but pressure on European governments to end an unacceptable tax dumping between countries that share the same market and the same coin, “stresses in a statement Elisa Ferreira, launched a question:” How is that governments can borrow more and more sacrifices to European citizens while at the same time relieve the major companies in the payment of billions of tax euros through that schemes, even though they may be legal, are profoundly immoral? “.

The special committee is chair by French MEP Alain Lamassoure, the European People’s Party (EPP), the parliamentary group has more seats in the working group (13).

In addition to Elisa Ferreira, on the committee are still the Portuguese MEP Marisa Matias (Left Bloc), vice -chairman of the commission, Miguel Viegas (CFP) and also Ana Gomes (PS) as a substitute.

MEPs meet in Strasbourg on Monday to approve the agenda committee and schedule the next steps to take.
