Travel to Mars already has 78,000 subscribers - Daily News - Lisbon

The Dutch non-governmental organization One Mars has received 78,000 applications for volunteers to travel to Mars in 2023 since it opened enrollment to April 22. The country with the most subscribers is the United States. Portugal remains blank.

According to data released by Mars One, received entries from more than 120 countries. Most of them come from the United States (17,324), followed by China (10,241) and the UK (3581).

The Portuguese language is represented with five enrolled originating in Brazil.

“With 78,000 entries in two weeks, this seems to be the most desired employment history. These numbers put us on track to achieve our goal of half a million candidates,” said Bas Lansdorp, co-founder and president One of Mars

Mars One will continue to accept applications online by August 31. These inscriptions, a group of regional judges will select between 50 and 100 candidates for the second round in each of 300 geographic regions identified by the organization.

The four rounds of the selection process will end in 2015. The Mars One will then choose between 28-40 candidates to be trained for about 7 years. Finally, a group will be chosen by voting and will fulfill the mission to Mars.
