Laser therapy is a new option against vaginal atrophy - Digital Journal

Terapia laser is new option against atrophy vaginal

A recent treatment promises to address some of the unwanted symptoms of menopause. It is a CO2 laser fractionated suitable for vaginal atrophy. The problem affects up to half of postmenopausal women and is characterized by loss of lubrication and elasticity of the vaginal mucosa and pain during intercourse.

atrophy is caused by estrogen deficiency at menopause, and is usually treated with creams based on this hormone.

The device, according to the manufacturer, can restore the elasticity, thickness and moisture of the vagina to stimulate the production of collagen and could be an option for those who have a contraindication to use hormone creams because of a history of cancer breast cancer.

Today, women with this profile are optionally polyacrylic acid which forms a film coating on the vaginal mucosa and lead to hydration, although not as effective as hormonal creams and a cream-specific estrogen-based local action and has low absorption.

latter treatment, however, needs to be discussed between physician and patient and has no absolute security.
