FC Portugal 3D project of the universities of Minho, Aveiro and Porto won the RoboCup German Open 2013 in the league robotic soccer simulated 3D. This European championship robotic occurred in Magdeburg, Germany, with teams of researchers from around the world, who have demonstrated the quality of their robots in complex tasks such as playing football, follow or recognize people and detect victims in disasters.
FC Portugal 3D scored in proof 19 goals and conceded six. After a hard fought group stage, won in the final magmaOffenburg (Germany) 4-3 on penalties. The national team is now preparing for the RoboCup World Championship, to be played in Eindhoven (Netherlands), 26-30 of June. The project started in 2000 and has won three world championships, seven European and over 25 international trophies. These competitions are used to develop humanoid robotics research and coordination of teams of robots, such as training, exchange of positions, tactics and playboo k. The League of 3D simulation consists of two teams of 11 virtual humanoid robots to play soccer via a simulator. The robots are fully autonomous, with no human intervention during the game.
“The FC Portugal stands out for the excellent quality of their methodologies and coordination of tactical model, which can very easily be adapted to different playing styles and has a flexible specification and execution of playbook, “said Luís Paulo Reis, a professor in the Department of Information Systems, University of Minho. “Note also by the characteristics of their behavior humanoids developed using learning methodologies and optimization, as the speed of your drive in the countryside and the range and accuracy of the kick the ball,” the newly elected president of the Portuguese Robotics Society.
The project has the support of the School of Engineering UMinho Algoritmi UMinho Center, Institute of Electronics and Telematics Engineering of Aveir o, Department of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, University of Aveiro, the LIAAC laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University and has been funded by various projects of the Foundation for Science and Technology.
