It is possible to silence the browser tabs individually – TVI24

Mute tab (Photo Printscreen) Google found “miracle” solution to end the “problem” of the tabs that open suddenly, producing shrill sounds that irritate and distract netizens.

According to Mashable, the latest version of Google Chrome browser (46) allows the user to mute the tabs individually by simply clicking with the mouse right button selected, then the way “mute tab” which is on the list.

Last year, the company had already created an icon with a symbol of a speaker, who appeared on the tab you were playing sound, so that the user the identified faster. However, the functionality has not proved sufficient.

During the Last year, the company developed the new testing tool, which is now available to the general public.

To confirm that you have the latest version of Chrome installed, click the button with three stacked short lines, which is in the upper right corner of the browser window. From there, select the “Help and about” and then click on “About Google Chrome” option. There you will find a line that indicates that your browser is up to date.

The new feature may surprise some. This is because last year Google said it would not create the option to mute tabs because they wanted the browser to control content.

On the subject, which generated controversy, François Beaufort, one of Chrome’s creators, published this explanation on Google+ last year:

After much debate, decided not to proceed with a silencer separators, because it crosses an important line: If we provide the Chrome options for content, means that we allow Chrome should assume responsibilities for the content policy

Today, it is normal that users remain angry about the inappropriate behavior of certain content, which produce annoying sounds through “self playings.” However, users should continue to press on these sites so that they change this practice. Moreover, some say that there is already a button “mute” on the right side of the audio indicator (“X”). In all seriousness, many web pages will register [which were to show] when users leave the site. Thus, the end of the tab will be a very strong signal to sites that their annoying ads are to scare all users.

In the case of non-intrusive content, we consider it reasonable for a user clicks the tab and use content controls to stop playing. In this case, a muffler (mute) would be redundant. However, this redundancy is not positive, as it can confuse users (for example, play a video and forget that the tab was silenced a few days ago); and, based on experience, many people were confused, reporting often unexpected behavior in browsers, which would be a great big headache for customer support teams.
