Died the man who launched the Super Mario - The Ball

The former head of Nintendo, Hiroshi Yamauchi, died on Thursday at age 85, a victim of pneumonia.

Seen as a visionary and one of the major drivers of the gaming industry, the Japanese inherited the company in 1949, when he was 22.

It was under his baton that Nintendo went on to lead the industry of games for consoles in the 80s, with the release of the Nintendo Family Computer, 8 bit processing capacity.

The decision to hire Shigeru Miyamoto, responsible for some of the most successful franchises of Nintendo games like Super Mario or Zelda saga, was his.
