The Lisbon Court of Appeal upheld the acquittal of 10 defendants of the case of the counterparts of submarines, to confirm fully the judgment of first instance, said today Lusa lawyer Nuno Godinho de Matos.
Speaking to Lusa, Godinho de Matos, lawyer of the accused to the company that sold the submarines to Portugal, stressed that the judgment of the Lisbon ratio came only prove that the lower court decision was “deeply well-founded on the facts.”
With this decision ratio, which is “double as” Godinho de Matos said that the criminal proceedings counterparts submarines “reached the end of the line” because can not be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.
In court decision handed down in February 2014, the Criminal Courts of Lisbon acquitted 10 defendants of the case of the counterparts on the purchase by Portugal of two submarines to the German company German Submarine Consortium (GCS) . These were the crimes of aggravated fraud and falsification of documents.
The prosecutor’s office appealed the decision to the Lisbon, now confirmed absolutório judgment.

Horst Weretecki, who was vice president of multinational Man Ferrostaal, Antje Malinowski, his subordinate, and Winfried Hotten, former head of the company, were the German defendants.
José Pedro Sá Ramalho, Filipe Soares Mesquita Moutinho, António Parreira Holterman Ratchet, Rui Moura Santos, Fernando Jorge Gonçalves da Costa, António Alves Labrador Jacinto and José Mendes Medeiros are the seven Portuguese businessmen linked to ACECIA a group of companies of components for the automotive industry.
The Portuguese government signed a contract with German consortium GSC buying two submarines in 2004, when Barroso was Prime Minister Paulo Portas and was Minister of National Defence.
Recently, the main proceedings related to the acquisition of submarines, which was under investigation for several years, was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution (DCIAP) and the Socialist MEP Ana Gomes, on quality assistant, tried to reopen the case because of alleged flaws and inconsistencies in the investigation.
