New Google tool helps save lives – Marketeer

For now only available in the UK and Estonia, this feature automatically sends the phone’s location to the emergency services, whenever a call is made to the emergency number. The Emergency Location Service uses the existing location technologies on Android smartphones and are used in applications such as Google Maps, for example.

Google notes that the feature is enabled only when contacted an emergency number and the user’s location is not revealed at any time to the technological. More than 99% of Android devices that are supporting the new tool, but only two countries can make use of it for now.

The plan it is to extend the presence of the Emergency Location Service to more countries and operators. At this time, the telecommunications operators present in Portugal, only Vodafone is contemplated in partnerships for Google.
