Identity theft crime increasingly common – TVI24

The identity theft is a criminal practice increasingly common, says the National Commission Data Protection (NCDP), which elected the year 2016 to combat identity theft.

Being one of the priorities for this year the issue of the ICPD identity theft will promote throughout the year preventive initiatives, such as those relating to the use of identification documents, according to a Commission statement this Wed Monday, the eve of the European Day of Data Protection.

One of the most frequent cases is the copy of the citizen card, which is required in various types of contracts and it is not legal.

According to the fifth article of the law 7/2007, citizen card law is “prohibits the reproduction of the citizen card a photocopy or any other means without the consent of the holder, except as expressly provided for by law or by decision of judicial authority “.

The same law also says that to prove the identity of a person is not allowed” the retention or preservation of the citizen card “.

It warns the DPA there has been” a clear abuse requirement to photocopy or scan of identity documents as well as the disclosure of identification numbers on open networks, which requires urgent action to protect the citizens. ”

DPA also warns that the massive dissemination of personal data, including the information of identification documents, “feeds the growing trend of identity theft”, as did the “violation of safety rules Data for insufficient safety measures, technical and organizational. ”

In a digital world where identity is authenticated electronically combat the crime of identity theft “requires the committed involvement of all”, says the Commission, which will issue guidelines for public bodies and businesses on procedures to adopt for use and reproduction of identification documents.

The Commission will also, again according to the document, do awareness-raising of citizens to help prevent identity theft.

The European Day of Data Protection is celebrated on Thursday and marks the anniversary of the opening for signature of the Convention 108 of the Council of Europe on the protection of individuals with regard to automatic processing of character data personnel.
