Yahoo announced today that it has purchased the blogging platform Tumblr for 1.1 billion dollars (800 million euros). “I am delighted to announce that we have agreed to acquire Tumblr. We promise not to ruin it, “said the CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, in his blog. “Tumblr is very special and we will manage it separately,” he said.
The purchase is part of the strategy of new CEO – Marissa Mayer is not yet in Yahoo a year ago – passing by buying successful companies to give back to the state of technology.
Since taking office in July last year, six months pregnant, Mayer has led radical changes in the company.
