Church communication and communion - Ecclesia Agency

ECCLESIA Agency – are aware and present in social networks, such as Facebook? What does it mean for you to attend this social network?

Canon John Aguiar Campos (JAC) – is important. I see normally, do not regard my presence on Facebook in a playful way while also having these playful moments. But I see how effectively a form of apostolate, valuing some ideas, discussion of ideals, each sharing, and discussing other contesting a third group.

AE – And their shares because doing? Feels that it is also a portal of faith?

JAC – is essentially because of it. To contact my friends just would not use the network, would use the mobile phone, landline or “face to face”. But Facebook friends are much more than our friends affective, those day to day. And so it’s a way to get other people in a way recetiva because there naturally creates a respectful relationship with those who ask us for friendship or repay our friend request. And those who respect also heard with more attention and have more freedom to tell a number of things.

AE – Social networks have contributed to a new public square open to all people … What is the importance of these spaces in the Church?

JAC – is important because the Catholic Church is and has to reach everyone as the word itself says Catholic. And now social networks are not merely an instrument, is a space, is a square. Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI in his message for this day, uses the Greek word “agora” which means square. Is a square where many lives, lives a place, a continent we inhabit today. And so it is also a continent, a place to evangelize. The Church must stop talking simply and only to them, through the same means and the same locations. Does not mean you should abandon the traditional ways, but that should improve them. Ie should not abandon the usual forms of contact but must be present in this other world, this other continent.

AE – But to be a true communication spaces must be adequately balanced and valued as says the Pope’s Message for this day?

JAC – Obviously this large square there are people whispering, there are people who talk and there are people screaming. And each one whispering, talking or yelling speaks of who occupies or concerns, speak of their culture and their proposals. Inhabiting this square is also learning to speak as we speak it and learn to listen and discern what it is worth or not worth capturing. There are a plurality of messages, there is a plurality of opinions, information and so it takes educarmo us to hear and say, “This is worth it, this is a message and this is noise.” So the Pope tells us that we have to even run the risk of being here knowing that discreetly, as usual, the truth and behave propose will find sometimes difficult. How is she going to feel the slight difficulty of being heard before them that speak louder, the more screaming. But we know that it is so for example in politics and almost never the one who shouts the most is what is right.

AE – In social networks, one of the goals can be evangelization?

JAC – can and should.

AE – But there is the risk of a person to communicate itself?

JAC – There is that risk, but it also happens in the traditional media. I remember those statements of the Lord Jesus: “What I say, I say it because I heard the Father.” When the evangelist, is a homily, in writing, on radio or television, if you tell yourself that clearly betrayed because he is not the word, is the voice. Only lends his voice to another word. We have to communicate the Lord Jesus. Hence we need to get in touch with him, to know him, to love him then to be able to communicate in the most authentic, the most witnessed as Benedict writes. Because if not witnessed, I remember the old parish priest of my village, the voice is “voice jar” sounds anything resonates, but it is not.

AE – This culture of digital networks brings new challenges to the Catholic Church?

JAC – brings the challenge of being the great square where all opinions circulate. Brings the challenge of language because it has to be comprehensive while we drove to the heart can not forget the mind. So this issue of the scope of the language must be mandatory and a point of great reflection not to fall into the pure emotion of situations or pure technological appetite because the believer should bring coherence, testimony and soul. Soul must put these new technologies, but has soul are purely technical and will not be understandable to all levels.

AE – The Church has managed to reach young people through social networks, as this is the age group most present in these media?

JAC – Social networks are not an instrument, is a place that lives and there are many millions of people who live there. We can no longer distinguish the offline and online, we are constantly connected and interconnected online. Through this virtual link and witnessed can get precisely the willingness to meet with … And finding there the testimony, video, mere information, link the person may be carried, Holy attempted personal contact or “face to face” with the God of Jesus Christ.

AE – also in this world is human development possible?

JAC – Yes, especially in places where people are completely isolated infoexcluídas other and even excluded from everything and everyone. In some isolated moments arrive through social networks, the witness, the sharing of faith and culture makes these geographically distant people may enter the square where the knowledge sharing, the joy of faith.

AE – were emerging opportunities with social networks that offer prayer, and sharing God’s word? Think effective?

JAC – Of course they are. There is an evaluation of the effectiveness that only belongs to God. I do not know to what extent, placing a prayer network for more likes you have, how many people have actually been through that text, video or sound, brought to a deeper reflection or if we want a conversion. But anyway we were there but this way there would be no provocation for this reflection, or to say: “Let’s see”.

AE – The World Communications Day this Sunday is noted. Pastoral component that should have this day?

JAC – According to the decree ‘Inter Mirifica’, that was 50 years ago who scored the goals of this international day, it is created because the Church, the Second Vatican Council wants to assert its friendship by the media and forget somehow ignorance or enmity that lived up to the late nineteenth century. Want to draw the attention of the faithful to the importance of the means and the responsibility to use them not only professionally but also as consumers. After feeling how difficult it is to discern this square also wants a global day to be an opportunity to pray for the media and those who work in them. A third point is that, given the importance of these media in evangelization, to tell Christians that these media are expensive, they need to invest in them, which should expand them or at least keep them. Therefore, pastorally, I think it should be a day used by the Church to express their affection for communications professionals, be th ey more related to communication more connected to the church or a communication said neutral. And secondly addition to thanking this work is also important to teach believers to be consumers of these media. Today no longer merely consumers can also be producers while. But it is important to teach and consume in a critical way.

AE – Dioceses and parishes have many projects related to various areas of ministry, such as catechesis, for example. What place and what relevance should be given to communication?

JAC – A unique relevance. Because the ministry of communication is not, and it is also an affirmation of the doctrine of the Church in this field, on the sidelines of other pastoral pastoral. It is present in all pastoral pastoral. And it has to be said clearly in a parish, in the apostolic movement has to say clearly what the Church Monsignor Claudio Maria Celli, who is the president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, said: “A church that does not communicate refuses herself. “movement that does not communicate enquista up. Lives so very happy for you but without the proposed testimony. So I think in all parishes and dioceses, in all sectors of the Church should be the concern that manages the communication communion. Because that’s where the communication points.
