Google gives up the payment service Google Checkout - TeK.sapo

The decision takes effect from November 20, when the service is definitely replaced by Google Wallet, but being limited to the purchase of digital goods.

Despite the strength Google brand, seven years were not enough to shake the dominance of giant ecommerce like Amazon or brands online payment like Paypal, which justifies the abandonment of the project seven years after its launch.

All batteries are now pointed to the mobile market, where Google Wallet will continue to ensure transaction applications, games, music and movies made through Google Play store. The purchase of physical products will no longer be possible.

Google Checkout was already in shadow Wallet since 2011, but the company never confirmed the closure of the service, which was active for some retailers.

By November these retailers will have to make a new choice. Google made some partnerships, among which include the Braintree, Shopify and Freshbooks, to facilitate the process. Retailers Americans can join the Google Wallet Instant Buy.
