Bank cards will function as the ticket, but only ... - Público.pt

In Lisbon, CGD may charge the cost of travel to the customer who pays with the card, without any additional expense

Next summer the application is already available, although only the cards of CGD.

public transport in Lisbon will allow customers to use their services even without a ticket, using, instead of this, a common bank card.

innovation will now be tested in the summer, but will be for at least one year limited to customers of CGD (CGD), which took part in its debit and credit application developed by OTLIS – Transport Operators Lisbon.

In Porto, the company homologous TIP – Transportation Intermodal Port, came forward with considering a similar system, but the idea never came to pass.

OTLIS partnership between CGD and is addressed primarily to occasional users of public transport. The OTLIS represents 20 operators in Greater Lisbon, including the Metro, Carris and Fertagus, and all of them, a client of CGD that does not have a rechargeable card will be able to spend your bank card by the validator and move on. What happens next is that the computer systems of operators gather information daily validation of these bank cards which will be sent to OTLIS and CGD.

According to

OTLIS CGD ensures payment for the journey by debit to the customer without any additional charge for this. And the cost of travel associated with the use of bank card will be in each operator, “generically equivalent to the price of other casual titles, although in some cases are likely to be slight differences should be confirmed with the operators sticky.”

responsible for Marketing OTLIS, Filipa Studer, Publico said that this service is the result of internal job application development, the CGD accepts incorporate into their cards. The company has the prospect to extend this innovation to other banks, to reach a larger number of potential customers, but admits that, for a year, or even two, it is available only to those who have account in state bank.

tests, Filipa said Studer, starting later this month. CGD use credit cards and Maestro debit Classic. To travel by metro, bus, tram, boat and train sufficient to bring the card a validator (or Gate ) in any of the operators who already use the system Lisboa Viva, as is done with the card transportation.

In Porto, the TIP failed to come up with a similar project, which came to be the musings of its former manager Mario Coutinho dos Santos, largely responsible for the operating model of the Andante, the first contactless transport card available in Portugal. By the PUBLIC found, the idea was not pursued because of the costs involved for the TIP, which is held only by public carriers in the region, the Metro do Porto, STCP and CP.

In Porto, as in Lisbon, customers have a specific card, and reusable, for occasional trips, which costs them 50 cents. Technological limitations of the card and the system areas of Greater Porto took the TIP to add to it the possibility of being charged with a trip to a distance (measured in zones) different from what the client has already available in the title, because in the early he noticed that many scribblings were forced to walk with multiple cards (and do their expense) for the different movements of their day-to-day. A problem that could easily be avoided if, instead of casual titles, each could use your own credit card.
