This is the most rapid test to detect the Ebola – Daily News – Lisbon

The Japanese university of Nagasaki today announced that it has developed a method to detect the presence of Ebola virus in about 11 minutes, faster than current techniques.

The new method was developed by one team of scientists from the Institute of Tropical Medicine that university, in partnership with the Japanese company Toshiba, enabling physicians to detect quickly the disease and start treatment in patients.

The researchers performed a test of proof in Guinea in March, when it was applied to 100 people, according to a statement from Toshiba.

The method employs a substance that amplifies only specific genes Ebola found in a sample of blood or other body fluid.

If the virus is present, the substance undergoes a reaction and cloudy liquid, causing a visual confirmation of the infection in about 11 minutes.
