Government wants to ban tobacco in all enclosed public places – Express

The Government decided on Thursday by the Cabinet proposed amendments to the Tobacco Act, which should extend the smoking ban to all enclosed public spaces, says “the public”.

The tobacco law will be changed through the implementation of a Community policy and provides, among other things, the placement of shock images on cigarette packets, the paper.

Since the anti-smoking law was passed in 2007, was banned smoking in restaurants, bars, clubs and workplaces with less than 100 square meters.

The extension of the ban on smoking in all public spaces will have a transitional period for adaptation, according to the morning. Not yet known whether the eight years provided for adaptation will run from the date of entry into force of the Law (2007), as proposed by the General Directorate of Health, or from the date of revision of the law if, as the government.

The proposed tobacco law review should include regulation of the electronic cigarette market and has yet to be approved by MPs in Parliament.

Smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death in the European Union, causing about 700,000 people a year. According to Commission data, 70% of smokers start smoking before age 18 and public expenditure on health in the EU for the treatment of diseases related to tobacco consumption amounted to about 25.3 billion euros per year. However, between 2002 and 2012, the proportion of smokers decreased from 40% (in the EU-15) to 28% (EU-27)

As for the alcohol law, the review provides for the extension of the prohibition of the consumption of beer to persons under 18.
