The European Commission is examining Apple’s agreements with record companies and digital music companies to find out if they are trying to limit formal rivals unfair free and supported by ads, the Financial Times reported citing people familiar with the matter.
The European Commission sought details contacting various record companies and online broadcast music on the agreements with Apple as the iPhone maker is preparing to launch its own streaming music service this year, according to the newspaper .
The EU body is concerned that Apple use its size, influence and relationships to make the record leaving rivals like Spotify, which depends on licenses with music companies for their catalogs, . according to the FT
The collection of information is only the first step in the direction of the investigation, but if the European Commission main- EU anti-competition authority – discover a breach, may require changes in practices business and impose heavy fines, the newspaper said.
