Andrew House: money from the sale of used can be used in other games and enjoys popularity of games

São Paulo – Sony never intended to block used games in PS4 . This is what guarantees the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Andrew House.

In an interview with British newspaper The Guardian, the executive said his views on restrictive measures required initially for the Xbox One – which were later removed by popular demand – and their meaning for the games.

“Since the announcement of the PS4 in February, we heard questions about our policies for online play and I must say I was a little perplexed,” said House. “We did not have any intention to change the model that has served us so well by cycles of different platforms.”

The restrictive measures were the great debate of the E3 trade show this year and many believe that Sony came out winning by playing the offline operation of the device, as well as the trading of used games. “Of course, the actions of others and the reactions of consumers created more speculation. Then feel at E3 during our conference, we would have a good chance to make everything clear,” said the executive.

House said he had no knowledge of any alleged lobby, which would have been made by producers like EA and Activision, to plead the restrictive measures. “We do not feel in any way that we respond to any external pressure,” he said.

For the CEO, there should be a “very careful balance” between creators, consumers and sellers on the issue of used games. “We are a producer, then also think there should be some form of participation in these transactions,” he said. “But on the other hand, the consumer sees the possession of a product as a very special benefit to buying physical media. And many vendors will also say that the vast majority of the money generated by sales of used is immediately used to buy other games and help create more interest around certain games. “

PS4 will be released in Brazil in 2013 yet, but there is still no official price for the console here. In the U.S., it will cost $ 399.
