The National Union of the Prison Guard Corps (SNCGP) said today that assaults on prison guards increased because increased drug seizures, mobile phones and knives within the chains.
“The assaults have increased because seizures also increased,” said the agency Lusa the president of SNCGP, Jorge Alves, a reaction to the Homeland Security Annual Report (RASI) 2014, indicating an increase in drug seizures, knives and cell phones in the office chair and assaults on prison guards.

According to the RASI, cocaine seized within the prisons increased by 47 percent in 2014 and hashish rose by 35% compared to 2013 .

The document said that the seized knives increased by 51 percent and mobile phones (over 34%).
In 2014, 29 members of the body of prison guard were attacked, a slight increase over the 27 recorded in 2013.
According to the RASI, the number of inmates in prisons to December 31 was 14,003, less than 281 on the same date of 2013, and last year, killed 73 prisoners, 11 more than in 2013, in addition to have recorded 22 suicides (nine).
