Now you can play Scrabble with ‘selfie’ and ‘hashtag’ – TVI24

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Scrabble players will have to discover new words on the board.

The fifth edition of the game includes five thousand new words, according to the publisher Merriam-Webster and will be on sale from this Wednesday.

This new list includes words like ‘selfie’ worth nine points and ‘hashtag’ worth 14 points. ‘Geocache’ worth 16 points was selected in a contest via social networks. The words ‘emo’ (five points), ‘bling’ (eight points), ‘mixtape’ (18 points) and ‘beatbox’ (18 points), and so on, till five thousand were also added.

The last update of the dictionary was in 2005.

The co-president of the Association of American Scrabble players, John Chew, believes these new words’ go a long way to approach the language which is currently spoken, “as CNN quotes.
