NASA is building the first space camera in 3D – TVI24

The NASA already uses a 3D printer to build rocket parts to print pizzas in space and even to materials in orbit. But the big news is scheduled for the end of September, when an engineer from the American space agency expects to complete the first space chamber essentially built from 3D printed objects.

The camera is only 50mm and will be coupled to a CubeSat, ie a miniature satellite. Before reaching the space will undergo vibration testing and temperature, among others, to prove that it is fit for space travel.

In parallel, too, is being built through a telescope of 35cm the same process. The goal is to prove that the technique of 3D printing may be easier, cheaper and even essential, as it allows simple changes to the product being manufactured.

For the future, if the process is approved, the idea is to use more complex alloys in print and therefore fabricate materials and increasingly larger instruments.
