Samsung would be testing the ‘three sides’ screen – Canaltech

Old rumors about the work of Samsung with flexible displays reappeared on Monday (11), by through the website ZDNet. Citing a Korean supplier of parts for the manufacturer, the vehicle states that the company is in advanced testing with a display of “three sides”, studying how such technology could be applied in a mobile future of the brand.

What you call three sided screen actually is a variation of the flexible display technology, in which a touchscreen can occupy not only the front of the unit, but also the sides. Gains go beyond an increase in inches due to the absence of edges on the sides of the screen and also reach new functions or special shortcuts that facilitate use. Would this kind of novelty, beyond usability and feasibility of the technology as a whole, which tests the Samsung focus

Despite the use of testing, in itself, seem to be going well, heard by the site sources indicate that the screens on three sides use a type of plastic that is difficult production and, thus, is available in limited quantities. Thus, Samsung would be providing a limited release of the first models with the technology, possibly only in South Korea, in order to test its acceptance by the public and also gain more time to have a more comprehensive offering of material.

The latest rumors indicate that this kind of flexible display could give the guys on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, one of the appliances near top of the line brand. This idea gained momentum when, as noted by CNET, the CEO of the company’s mobile division, Kim Hyeon Jun, said the company was about to introduce a device with an innovation on the screen, which makes use of cutting edge materials.

For now, however, nothing confirmed. But the pile of rumors about it that grows increasingly indicates that the ideas of Samsung flexible displays to go well beyond curved screens, as normally appear there.
