University adapt toys for children … – Renaissance

“This is a dog that moves mustaches and snores. We have a duck that makes ‘quack quack-’ and fire trucks.” Fernando Ribeiro makes presentations of the materials that have at hand.

On Christmas Eve, the Automation and Robotics Laboratory at the University of Minho becomes a kind of Santa factory. The toys come here second hand, explains the head of the laboratory and leave as new and adapted to the needs of the special children.

This year, raised about 60 toys, which closely a dozen students and two teachers are adapting two weeks ago.

Raquel Silva, partner of the initiative, explains that the toys are destined five schools, “without financial resources and where are children with various diseases” .

After two years standing, the Robotics group returns to adapt toys he brought Christmas to some institutions in the region. The initiative has been going on since 2006, but, as explained Fernando Ribeiro, was forced to stop because in 2012 and in 2013 failed to raise toys.

The toys were collected, almost door to door, by groups of scouts, who then did the arrival at the laboratory.
