Yahoo! and AltaVista will turn over 11 services - Tech & Net

As part of the renewal of the company in order to improve the quality of its services and its market position, Yahoo! announced it will close 12 of its products in the coming days and months. Among the services that are disabled, is the search engine Altavista, which will crash on the 8th of July.

AltaVista was launched in 1995 and became part of Yahoo! after its purchase in 2003 for $ 140 million, about U.S. $ 310 million. AltaVista, Yahoo! will also stop other services which most do not achieve the same success of your search engine. The list includes Yahoo WebPlayer crashing on Sunday (30), RSS Alerts (which will be replaced by E-mail Alerts on July 1) and the Axis, an app and search plugin which was released last year. “We’re wrapping some products so that we can continue to focus on creating great products that are essential to their daily lives,” the company said in a statement.

Yahoo! Axis – the browser plugin has been deactivated on June 28 and the application will continue to operate, but will no longer receive updates. Yahoo! suggests that Yahoo! Search app for iOS and Android is used instead.

Yahoo! Browser Plus – have also been disabled on June 28, but there are solutions geared only for developers.

Citizen Sports – have also been disabled on June 28.

Yahoo! WebPlayer – crashes on Sunday (30).

FoxyTunes – will be deactivated from July 1.

Yahoo! RSS Alerts – will be deactivated from July 1.

Yahoo! Stars India – will be turned off on July 25.

Yahoo! Neighnors Beta – will be turned off on July 8.

AltaVista – will be turned off on July 8.

Yahoo! Downloads Beta – will be deactivated on 31 July.

Yahoo! Location API – goes off the air on September 28.

Yahoo! Term Extraction API – goes off the air on September 28.
