Sony takes PS3 air update that "kills" the consoles - PC ... - PC World

Sony took the air on Wednesday a firmware update for the PlayStation 3, after extensive reports that its installation scrapped the console.

Gamers

used Twitter and discussion forums like Reddit to warn that the 4:45 version “kills” the islands and ask your friends not to install it. Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony’s game division, said he is still working to discover the cause of the problem.

“We are working to quickly identify the problem and will post more information in our global sites as soon as possible,” said Yoshiko Uchiyama, spokesman for Sony in Tokyo, who also apologized to gamers for the inconvenience caused.

A post on

games section of the site called Reddit “DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PS3!” was quickly voted to the front page of the site. Gamers say the firmware causes the console to “freeze” during the boot process, never reaching the main interface. The problem does not seem to be related to the model of the console, although many users report having upgraded smoothly.

Some console owners say they were “forced” to upgrade the console to continue using services like Netflix, while others leave the automatic update service enabled by default. On Reddit, some users speculate that the affected consoles can be retrieved by using the boot in “safe mode” and making a firmware installation from a USB drive.

At the Sony support site lists the firmware version 4:41, launched in April, as the latest available.
