Thirty balloons filled with helium, with antennas linked to ground stations, flew 20 miles above Christchurch, New Zealand.

The “Loon Project ‘aims to shed thousands of balloons to allow web access to remote areas of the world. «Balloons, carried by the wind to altitudes twice higher than those achieved by commercial aircraft can bring Internet to the ground at speeds similar to or higher than the current 3G or faster,” the company said.
