They invented the wood (almost) transparent – TSF Online

Through chemical removal of a molecule, the wood becomes transparent, although somewhat blurred because of the fibers natural.

the new material might be used not only for windows but even in walls, according to the responsible for the discovery , the Swede Lars Berglund.

This new material can ensure more energy saving than the glass, and is able to be used on the facades of buildings, without compromising privacy, or solar panels, says the same scientist. It could also be used in solar panels.

Scientists have transparent timber to remove chemically, lignin, a polymer that blocks light from entering the timber and whose function is “stiffness, impermeability and resistance to microbiological and mechanical attacks on plant tissues.”

in the wood was then added acrylic, which led to such a transparent timber (blurred by the fibers natural).

the news was developed by scientists at KTH, a Swedish university and research published in the journal American Chemical Society, Biomacromolecules.
