Where there was an earthquake, what to do in case of earthquake, what to have on hand if there is a concussion? To answer these and other questions about seismic activity, the Portuguese Institute of Ocean and Atmosphere (IPMA) has launched a mobile application available for Android and iOS that provides information gathered from seismic stations and organizations collaborating with the IPMA.

available for smartphones and tablet application – that should be searched with the word earthquake in the Apple Store or Google Play – is free and indicates to the user the earthquakes that occurred in Portugal in the last seven days

The IPMA also provides the location of the earthquake’s epicenter, the date and time it occurred, the magnitude, depth, maximum degree of intensity and its location. In the case of the Azores, only data for the shocks that are felt and have a greater magnitude than or equal to 2 will be launched.

The application allows you to view maps of seismic intensity, known as shakemaps , and the communiqués issued by IPMA in the event of there being an earthquake. It is also shown a list of emergency supplies to be around in case of earthquake.

The Institute had already launched the Meteo IPMA application for the iOS system, where the user has access to information on weather conditions, forecasts up to 10 days, sea state, UV index, weather warnings and news related to meteorology.

This application was updated last week to fix a bug in iOS detected 8.
