Deputy Minister and Regional Development, Miguel Poiares Maduro, expressed his confidence that the new technology platforms allow in the future financial sustainability of journalism.
Poiares Maduro spoke at 23. º Congress of APDC – Portuguese Association for the Development of Communications, a Panel Discussion on Media.
“I have great confidence that the new platform will allow in the future financial sustainability of journalism. But until then, these transfer processes bring high risks for the media and possibly a different form of relationship between reader and newspapers, “he said.
“A similar process tends to occur in audiovisual, with the multiplication of forms of access to the content to create great instability and redistribution between creators, aggregators, and content distributors,” he added.
“Say Media business is far from being stabilized at new models, creating financial pressures that may affect the quality of journalism itself,” he said.
Priorities under his tutelage, Miguel Poiares Maduro said he is “support to the media they wish to transfer to a new business model, based on new digital platforms,” ??
Secondly, “supporting the training of journalists and investigative journalism,” he said.
“For these goals we will converge public instruments that we have, as are EU funds, incentives for media, training support, support local and regional institutional advertising,” he concluded.
