Vodafone and Ericsson make proof of concept 5G networks – Bitmag

The two companies have created a prototype 5G Smart Network Edge that includes a core prepared for 5G, and demonstrated the benefits of networks of multiple configurations and cloud technology distributed using an example of a application computer vision (machine vision).

This is increasingly used to ensure quality manufacturing processes and to make measurements or recognize objects. In a normal scenario, you can do the processing of images collected by high-speed cameras, analisando- the unblocking and subsequent actions, such as the identification of defective components.

In a display in real time during the event Innovation Days at the Centre for Research and Development of Ericsson in Aachen, companies have shown how the 5G Smart Network Edge allows greater efficiency for the industry. Among the advantages are reduced latency in the network, which increases the recognition rate of a facial recognition application based on cloud, and the significant reduction in video traffic through the Wide Area Network and maintenance . locally sensitive data – thus are better protected against unauthorized access

Sonja Graf, director of the Vodafone Innovation Park of the German subsidiary, explains: “we have created a 5G Smart prototype Network Edge in just three months by connecting our laboratories. The case of facial recognition use is just another example of how 5G may be the answer to a very varied set of the most different industries needs. “

You Valter D’Avino , director of Ericsson for the region of West and Central Europe, welcomes the success of the demonstration. “We are delighted with this partnership that unites Ericsson and Vodafone laboratories an innovative design which translates this use case, which demonstrates how the 5G can enable industries to become more efficient as well as safer and more competitive. “
