dwarf planet is discovered beyond Neptune – Santa Catarina Daily

A dwarf planet about 700 km in diameter operating at a very distant orbit beyond Neptune, was discovered by a team of astronomers announced Tuesday the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research) French.

“The planet is currently 9.7 billion kilometers from the Sun, but its orbit is very elliptical and it can get away up to 19 billion kilometers” of our star, told AFP astronomer Jean- Marc Petit, CNRS researcher, who is part of this international team.

the Minor planet Center (MPC) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has just granted him the dwarf planet status. This service responsible for collecting information on smaller objects (comets, asteroids) of the solar system has a temporary name to the planet in question, 2015 RR245.

Additional observations should help to refine the evaluation of the size and composition .

the celestial RR245 object was detected by observations made in September with the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope (CFHT) installed on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, as part of the international program “Origin of the Solar External System “(Bones).

in February, the Canadian astronomer John Kavelaars first detected the RR245 the images of bones.

” He was there on the screen — this point light moving so slowly should be at least twice as far from the Sun than Neptune, “explains Michele Bannister, the University of Victoria, Columbia, quoted in a statement from the CFHT.
