Organization recruits astronauts to go to Mars - The Ball

The Dutch NGO Mars One wants to take humans to Mars in 2023. To this end, launched on Monday a program of recruitment open to anyone and whose final choice will happen in a television broadcast.

The founder of the organization, Bas Landsdorp explained how everything would work at a press conference transmitted through New York .

The Mars One has received ten thousand emails from people from over a hundred countries who are interested in joining the mission.
The astronaut candidates will have to have more than 18 years with ability to create and maintain relationships, confident and capable of self-analysis, curious, creative, flexible and ‘desenrascados. “

After the finalists are chosen will be trained between 2016 and 2021. There will be 24 spaces and the winners will be sent in groups of four to stay for seven months.

“And they must have the full notion that this could be a trip without return to Earth,” warned Bas Landsdorp.

The program has been met with skepticism, because in addition to there living conditions on the planet, nor the American agency NASA was able to do more than send a robotic vehicle to the red planet.

But the Dutch organization has a budget of 4.6 billion euros and is sponsored by Dutchman Gerard ‘t Hooft, Nobel Prize in Physics in 1999.
