Entries are open for trip to Mars - Daily News - Lisbon

The Dutch NGO Mars One wants to put humans on Mars in 2023, and launched on Monday a program to recruit volunteers. No Portuguese enrolled.

Until 15:30 today there were only about 50 people registered as volunteers to go to Mars on the official website of the project, which was presented on Monday at a press conference in New York. On occasion, Bas Landsdorp, founder of Mars One, said the organization had received “ten thousand ‘emails’ people from over a hundred countries who are interested in joining the mission,” but the site in which each of the parties whether to enroll the number is still small and no Portuguese enrolled.

See the video presentation of the project:

astronaut candidates will have to have more than 18 years, with the ability to create and maintain relationships that are capable of self-analysis and reliable, they are curious, creative, flexible and resourceful, they have some basic English and they have the full notion that this could be a trip without return to Earth.

Applications are open until 31 August. In total, the organization seeks 24 astronauts, which will be sent to Mars in groups of four (two men and two women, so that they can reproduce), for stays of seven months. The first group leaves for Mars in September 2022. Every two years will be sent a new group, the Red Planet will live in houses of 50 square meters and cultivate their own food.
