See a leaf become a robot and walk alone – TeK.sapo

This is a concept that seems straight out of a science fiction movie: a sheet that is printed with specific materials and can at any time turn into a robot and start performing a task. But for a group of researchers from Harvard University and MIT this is already a reality.

Despite the existence of robots that assemble themselves – even in the area furniture – this is nonetheless a remarkable fact. But the robot-origami can be distinguished from other projects by having ability to perform certain tasks after the construction is completed. And the human need not interfere with any of the steps.

The only task that the man needs to do is print the sheet with own materials and bend when subjected to certain temperature. It is also necessary to put the motor equipment part, but from then simply leave the “magic” happen.

In a statement the Wyss Institute at Harvard University reveals that the robot’s video can mount itself in just four minutes, already taking into account the cooling process. And besides speed, one of the advantages of these machines is the low cost of production.

The robot-origami is not yet perfected and is far from being able to be used in a practical way by various industries. One of the examples that researchers have been at the level of space exploration, it is possible to send a sheet set that when they reach the destination they become independent explorers robots.
