Emergency system in cars will be required in October ... - TeK.sapo

The European Union has long dreamed of eCall and yesterday, February 26, MEPs approved a bill that would mandate the implementation of the emergency system in all new cars from October 2015.

were 485 MEPs who approved the project, against 151 votes for and 32 opposed abstinence. The eCall system will be free and across all countries, that is, besides being implemented in 28 Member States, a user can use the system even if it is outside the country of origin.

The responsible Europeans believe that the implementation of eCall can help decrease the number of deaths on the road, through a purchase of emergency response services, and the number of wounded. It is estimated that the tool can help save 2,500 lives per year.

In 2012 28 million people and 1.5 million others were injured in road accidents have died, according to EU data.

eCall system automatically establishes a call to 112, but the system can also be activated by the drivers themselves. The tool sends the precise location coordinates, which makes the process faster rescue.

The bill approved yesterday predicts the system to be installed in all new cars and light commercial vehicles. Members of the European Parliament revealed in a statement that the deadline of October 2015 may prove to be increased if the manufacturers can not develop and test the eCall there.
