Strike by prison guards with superior adhesion to 90% – Journal SUN

The strike seven days of prison guards ended today at 10:00 am had superior adhesion to 90 percent, according to the National Union of the Prison Guard Corps (SNCGP).

President’s SNCGP, Jorge Alves, told Lusa agency that joining the strike, which began on April 2, was more than 90 percent in 49 prisons.

Jorge Alves said that in some prisons, such as Sintra, Pinheiro da Cruz and Santa Cruz do Bispo, membership was around 100 percent.

During the seven days of downtime, the environment in chains ” was calm “and has not existed voltage problems among prisoners, since spent more time in the cells, said the union.

According to Jorge Alves, the incidents occurred this morning at Pacos Ferreira in prison in which four prison guards were injured and had to receive hospital treatment after being assaulted by an inmate, were not related to the strike.

The strike, which affected mainly the visits to prisoners, was inserted in its defense that the SNCGP is doing since the beginning of March to demand the application of professional status, which entered into force more than a year, and lack of response from the Ministry of Justice (MJ) to the claims, said the president the union.

Jorge Alves said that prison guards require the regulation of working hours, progressions in careers, approval of the new pay levels and pay the shift premium for those who make nights.

According to the union, these points are covered in the professional status which entered into force for more than year, but has not been implemented, and the budget for 2015 of the Directorate General of Rehabilitation and Prison Services (DGRSP).

As part of the defense, the SNCGP has sponsored three vigils and held between March 2 and April 1 to a strike of the night and weekend shifts.

The union already scheduled another period of strike between 16 and 19 April and a vigil at the Ministry of Finance on 16 April.
